An exciting new opportunity to support the establishment of the Commercial team as a Commercial Category Analyst has become available within the Corporate Buying department of ALDI Stores.  This is a permanent full-time role based in Minchinbury NSW.


In this role you will support the Commercial Manager by driving strategy through data to optimise overall category performance. As a Commercial Category Analyst, your role is to build and maintain analytical tools which provide meaningful outcomes for use by the Buying Directors to support category management. You will be at the forefront of ongoing category and market analysis and reporting.


What we are looking for:

The successful candidate will possess data analytics skills and be confident in manipulating large sets of data and reporting, using SQL and python to generate insights.  We are seeking an experienced professional who demonstrates strong planning and technical skills, with the confidence to engage and influence stakeholders with strategic recommendations.


Selection criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications within a relevant field
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience within an analytics background (ideally FMCG)
  • Demonstrated commercial experience
  • Strong competency in SQL
  • Ability to manipulate and mine data using Python
  • Understanding of data visualisation (Tableau/MicroStrategy)
  • Experience in planning, developing and maintaining processes
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office suite, particularly in Excel
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and act on innovative ideas
  • High attention to detail, accuracy and time management skills

Role responsibilities:

  • Engage with internal stakeholders to drive category optimisation strategies
  • Establish, develop and maintain a streamlined category management process
  • Effectively clean and aggregate large data sets to make recommendations across categories
  • Utilise data visualisation tools to understand and communicate market / category trends and patterns
  • Present insights and proposals to the greater Buying team
  • Monitor and assess category performance and support ongoing reviews
  • Utilise key market drivers in order to provide consultancy services to the Buying Directors and Senior Management
  • Provide ongoing support to the broader Buying department
