Throwback Thursday - how it all began!
How good is this? We’ve dug deep into the ALDI vault today, way back to 2001, to celebrate the grand opening of our very first stores in Australia.
Bankstown Airport and Marrickville were both opened Thursday, January 25, 2001, just in time for the Australia Day long weekend.
From the early 2000s’ fashion (hello bright primary colours) to the old-school Singer TVs, Akai boom box and our famous yellow tiles, there is a lot to love here.
The buzz surrounding our new stores in Australia had people lining up around the building and through the carparks to see what all the fuss was about, and they were not disappointed.
And did you know Special Buys were originally just called Specials in the beginning??
Twenty one years later and we now have more than 570 stores across the country and the same loyal customers.
